En plein air - Architecture

This day course is suitable for learners with mixed ability in art. You can expect that some learners may have done some drawing and painting in the past. In these cases, the tutor will ensure that total beginners will get the instruction and support they need, and that those who are more advanced in the subject will be given tasks with more challenge. The course will start at Leicester Adult Education, then the group will go out and about on foot to draw Architecture found in our city centre (weather dependent).

You will learn to draw quickly and with freedom, use a variety of marks and lines, work with different media including ink and watercolour and understand simple perspective.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning.  You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly.  You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. Extra costs: All equipment will be provided for you to use in this one day session. You are welcome to bring your own art materials if you want to practice using more than the kit provided in class. This day course involves walking around the city centre to draw from observation. Please bring waterproofs in case of rain and wear clothes appropriate for the weather. If it is hot, please bring a sun hat, sun cream and a portable water bottle. In the case of very bad weather, the course will be indoors, working from photographs/pictures of architecture. There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support.
