This course is for people aged 25 or over, who have moderate learning difficulties and disabilities. This course will benefit people who enjoy being creative and are able to work with clay. They will be interested in learning different techniques and styles which they will use to make their own pieces of pottery. There will be an extra cost which will include all the resources that will be used in each session. This will be £2.50 per session and includes clay, glazes, firing and will be included in the course fees. If you attend courses in the morning and afternoon at Bishopdale Adult Learning Hub please bring your own lunch.

How to make functional and sculptural items using a range of hand building techniques - pinch pots, coiling and slab building. Try the potter's wheel to make a pot. You will learn how to decorate and embellish your pots using slips and glazes. Your work will be inspired by a variety of themes such as the natural world and famous artists

There will be no exams and the course will focus on creative and practical activities. There will be a specialist Pottery tutor to teach you. When you meet staff before you sign up for the course, we will find out whether the course is right for you, and what extra support you might need. To get the most out of your class, please come on time. Try not to miss any classes (you agree to attend at least 80% of the lessons). Lessons will be practical and take place in the classroom. There is also a Google Classroom which is an online place where your tutor will share information about your course. You can get on your Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. Your tutor can help you to do this. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. In every lesson, you will be expected to comment briefly on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and ideas how you can improve.

For people aged 25 and over with moderate learning disabilities

You will have the chance to enter your work for in the Art Exhibition at the College which starts in June. You can ask your friends and family to come and see your work.
