REMIT – Adult Education for Mental Health

REMIT is a community-based education programme in Leicester for adults who experience severe or enduring mental health difficulties. The programme is accessed via referral from a medical or mental health professional.

REMIT is a community education programme for adults experiencing severe or enduring mental health difficulties.

With a focus on wellbeing, REMIT courses support recovery through purposeful engagement in stimulating, creative, and thought-provoking learning. Learners develop self-confidence, a sense of belonging, make progress in their chosen subjects and celebrate their achievements.

Most REMIT courses are non-accredited, however, where appropriate learners are encouraged and supported to progress into mainstream provision where they may choose to work towards qualifications. Other opportunities for progression can be accessed through Leicester Adult Education Careers service.

REMIT is based at Leicester Adult Education College on Belvoir Street. Many REMIT courses take place at the college, whilst others take place at community venues. Courses typically run between 10 am -12 noon or between 1 pm - 3 pm throughout the academic year.

The criteria for a referral onto our REMIT programme are that potential learners should be:

  • Aged 19+
  • Medically diagnosed with a mental health condition
  • Experiencing severe or enduring mental health difficulties that may prevent them from accessing other learning opportunities
  • Interested in engaging in education, training, or paid /voluntary work.

To join a REMIT course, learners must be referred by a mental health professional or another professional supporting them, who is aware of their mental health condition and its impact.
