This course is for people aged 25 or over, who have moderate learning disabilities. This course will benefit people who enjoy singing and playing musical instruments. They will enjoy choosing different styles of music to sing and performing as part of a group, and/or as a solo singer.

You will learn beats and rhythm by playing percussion instruments, such as: Tambourines, Drums, Maracas. Develop singing and breathing techniques to improve your singing as a group or solo performer; Work as part of a team, listening to each other, taking your turn and learning different musical styles and songs; You will learn how to read the music by following simple instructions. To perform in front of an audience.

There will be no exams and the course will focus on creative activities. There will be a specialist Music tutor to teach you. When you meet staff before you sign up for the course, we will find out whether the course is right for you, and what extra support you might need. To get the most out of your class, please come on time. Try not to miss any classes (you agree to attend at least 80% of the lessons). Lessons will be practical and take place in the classroom. There is also a Google Classroom which is an online place where your tutor will share information about your course. You can get on your Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. Your tutor can help you to do this. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. In every lesson, you will be expected to comment briefly on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and ideas how you can improve.

For people aged 25 and over with moderate learning disabilities

At the end of each term, there will be a performance when you can showcase your musical skills. You can ask your friends and family to come and see your work. If you would like to develop new skills and interests, there are lots of other courses for you to try.
