Introduction to Counselling

This introductory course is for learners who are interested in learning counselling skills. It will provide you with an insight into the career or a qualified counsellor and allied professions and opportunities to utilise these skills and will support you to decide whether or not you want to pursue higher levels of qualification. You could use it to enhance an existing role or increase your general employability if you are seeking to enter the job market.

You will learn about counselling skills that can be used in everyday life and work along with some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills. You will also learn to appreciate the importance of self-development.

There are no exams as you are assessed on your portfolio of evidence. You do not need a placement to complete this course. You will also be given regular homework. This will cover the knowledge aspect of the course and will involve you writing detailed assignments. Your tutor will give you feedback on your assignments and suggest ways in which you can improve.

There are no entry requirements for this non accredited course, though you will need to complete an initial assessment written activity to establish your skill level. When considering your entitlement to fee funding for courses, we will discuss your eligibility prior to enrolment or becoming responsible for any costs.

Successful completion of the course will allow you to progress onto the Level 2 certificate in Counselling Skills. It can also be considered as the first step in starting to explore the opportunity in becoming employed in the counselling sector.
