Creative Glass for Beginners

This course is for learners who want to learn the basic techniques of fusing and slumping glass. This course is intended for beginners to Creative Glass. It is not suitable for learners who are advanced in the subject, or who have previously been, or currently enrolled on our Creative Glass - Develop and Explore courses (unless advised by the tutor). The tutor will ensure that total beginners will get the instruction and support they need. Once you have completed a maximum of 3 Beginners courses you can progress onto our Creative Glass - Develop & Explore courses.

You will learn how to safely work with glass. Learn how to use tools and equipment to score and break glass. Experiment with basic techniques such as layering (fusing) and melting (slumping) over moulds to create forms to make decorative and functional pieces of glassware.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning.  You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly.  You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. Extra costs: Basic glass equipment will be provided for you to use on this course. There will be additional costs for glass sheets, copper, frit, coloured & dichroic glass and embellishments which your tutor will advise you on during the course. Please do not wear open toe shoes due to health & safety.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support.
