This is a practical course intended for people with no previous experience, or limited experience in sewing. This course is not for advanced learners, or learners who have previously enrolled on our Sewing - Develop & Explore courses (unless advised by Tutor) The tutor will ensure you will get all the instruction and support you need to learn the basics of sewing on a machine. Once you have completed a maximum of 3 Beginners courses you can progress onto our Sewing- Develop & Explore or other advanced sewing courses.

You will be introduced to the workings of the sewing machine. Learn basic machine maintenance. Explore and use some of the different stitches of the sewing machine. Learn a range of construction techniques and different types of seam finishes. You will be making small projects such as bags, cushions, apron etc. which will allow you to develop a knowledge of different seams and finishes

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning.  You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly.  You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. Extra costs: Basic equipment will be provided for you to use in the sessions. Please bring your own fabric after the first session, to make your garments with, your tutor can advise you on the best fabric to use.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support.
