This course is intended for people who are new to yoga and have little or no knowledge of basic yoga poses. The tutor will ensure that total beginners get the instructions and support they need. This course will benefit people who wish to take some time for themselves and to develop self-care practices to enhance their wellbeing.

Warm-up routines; Yoga postures (asanas) and sequences; Breathing exercises (pranayama); Relaxation techniques; Mindfulness and body awareness practices; To practice yoga safely, with special reference to individual needs. The sessions are designed to help you to build strength and improve your mobility, balance and coordination, as well as help you to relax and become more mindful.

Each session will include a group discussion/sharing time, a mindfulness practice and a yoga sequence. Each session will be building and following on from the last to help you grow your knowledge and understanding in a supportive way. Wear loose, comfortable clothing in layers and bring a bottle of water and a blanket. You will be required to complete our health screening questions before you start the course. This course will involve physical and mindful activities. So that you can be successful in learning yoga, we require that you arrive promptly for each lesson, and you attend at least 80% of the lessons. The lessons will be supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience through providing additional resources and assessments to support independent learning throughout the week. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. After every lesson, you will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve.
