Getting started with Ancient Greek

The course is ideal for those who have never had the opportunity to learn Ancient Greek but are interested in finding out about the language.

This short introduction to ancient Greek offers an opportunity to learn about some of the key grammatical principles on which the language is based. You’ll learn how to read and write the alphabet and translate very simple sentences.

There will be no exams or qualifications. Lessons will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, extra activities, reading materials, homework, assignments, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning throughout the week. You will be able to access Google Classroom via a secure leicesterlearns account. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. So that you can be successful in your learning, we require that you arrive promptly for each lesson, and that you try not to miss any (you need to agree to attend at least 80% of the lessons). Additionally, students will be asked to complete a course evaluation survey to share their learning experience. This survey will be shared via Google classroom at the end of the course.

To enrol on this course, you must meet the following requirements: • You must already be enrolled on another LAE course • You will need your learner number • You should have access to a smartphone
