The Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is the nationally recognised qualification which meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for people responsible for the care of children in their place of work or volunteering.

This course covers essential knowledge including the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider, emergency assessment, providing first aid for an infant and a child who may be unresponsive, choking, bleeding or in shock, as well as a range of other minor ailments and injuries.

This is a mixed delivery method course. The first part (knowledge) will be completed by self-directed e-learning - once you have enrolled, you will be sent a link to the website where you will complete this online. It is anticipated you will take one day to cover this material. The e-learning can be done in your own time and at your convenience but you will be expected to complete this (with online verification) at least 24 hours before joining the classroom based second part of the course. The second part is 1 day of face-to-face practical skills development and assessment in a classroom with a teacher and full class group. Your assessment will be marked and you will have confirmation before you leave that you have successfully achieved this qualification.

During the assessment for this qualification, you will be required to demonstrate CPR and recovery position techniques for a minimum of 2 minutes each. You must be able to independently get down to the floor level and remain sitting or kneeling for this time to gain accreditation. You should also be working at a minimum level of English skills equivalent to Level 1 or GCSE in order to complete both the self-directed e-learning and the multiple-choice assessment at the end of the practical section. If you have dyslexia or other learning disabilities which could affect your ability to complete the self-directed study, please make us aware at enrolment so that support options can be considered and put in place prior to enrolment. You will also need access to a suitable internet device (smartphone, tablet, laptop etc) and WiFi connection to complete the e-learning element - a link to the website for this will be sent once you are enrolled.

This qualification meets the requirements for Paediatric First Aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines. The qualification is valid for a period of 3 years, after which learners will need to retake the course for continued certification. In addition to this it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually. This course, on its own, will not directly qualify you to work with children but is a requirement for most working with children roles.
