This is an interesting introduction to a complex subject, covering the foundation knowledge you will find useful in everyday life and can build on with higher levels of qualifications for volunteering and career development.

• What is meant by the terms ‘mental health’ and ‘wellbeing’ • Different mental health conditions and treatment • Finding support for people with mental health conditions • Looking after your own mental health and wellbeing.

This 5 hour course is delivered on one day, in a classroom, through activities and discussions. You will work together with other adult learners, supported by a qualified teacher. There will be an e-assessment for this course during the day which will evidence your achievement of the qualification. You will be supported to use the computers in the college to do this.

You will be expected to complete a vocational initial assessment to make sure this is the right level course for you. Confidence with low level digital skills is essential as the exam is computer based. English skills at a minimum of Entry 3 level (pre-GCSE equivalent) are required to be able to successfully complete the e-assessment at the end of this course. If you do not have proof of English qualification at this level, you may be required to undertake an English assessment before joining the course. Higher level English qualifications will be required should you choose to progress onto level 2 qualifications, especially for employment, so you are encouraged to gain those qualifications before pursuing vocational qualifications.

Successful completion of the course can lead on to further study of mental health and wellbeing subjects at Level 2 or other courses relating to Adult Social Care. Whilst the qualification alone will not guarantee you employment, it will contribute, along with other qualifications, to your applications for jobs in any sector involving working with or supporting people who may be experiencing mental health issues. Leicester Adult Education are pleased to offer a free, impartial in-house careers service to help all our learners to make decisions around their future career goals and choices. We have physical and digital resources available to support you and face to face careers appointments with our qualified and experienced adviser, all of which are easily accessed once enrolled.
