Anyone who works with other people, either in teams or as a support role, will benefit from this course. Mental wellbeing is something we need to safeguard in others as much as ourselves. Being able to spot the signs of ill health and develop strategies in life and the workplace to improve and maintain the wellbeing of people around us, will make our own lives better as a result.

• Underpinning knowledge and understanding in relation to the principles of first aid for mental health • Recognising mental ill health in self and others • Supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace • Understanding how to promote a wellness culture in the workplace • The importance of resilience and self-care for first aiders for mental health

This short course is delivered across two days, in a classroom, through activities and discussions. You will work together with other adult learners, supported by a qualified teacher. There will be 2 short e-assessments for this course which will evidence your achievement of the qualification. You will be supported to use the computers in the college to do this.

You will be expected to complete a vocational initial assessment to make sure this is the right level course for you. Confidence with basic digital skills is essential as the multiple choice exam is computer based. English at a minimum of Entry 3 level (pre-GCSE equivalent) are required to be able to successfully complete the e-assessment at the end of this course. If you do not have proof of English qualification at this level, you may be required to undertake an English assessment before joining the course. Higher level English qualifications will be required should you choose to progress onto level 2 qualifications, especially for employment, so you are encouraged to gain those qualifications before pursuing vocational qualifications.

Successful completion of the course can lead on to further or more detailed study of mental health and wellbeing subjects at Level 2 or other courses relating to Adult Social Care. Whilst the qualification alone will not guarantee you employment, it will contribute, along with other qualifications, in support of your applications for jobs in any sector involving working with or supporting people. The value of this course is not limited to people who work in mental health support roles, as people can experience these difficulties in any setting and time.
