The Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting will help you to gain a solid foundation in the basics of accounting. If you already work in a finance related role, have a desire to succeed in the accounting sector or are self-employed and want a deeper understanding of the accounts for your business, this course is for you. You will be required to attend the introductory course for this qualification.

This qualification is delivered across four modules: introduction to bookkeeping, principles of bookkeeping controls, principals of costing and the business environment. The course will develop skills and knowledge in the following areas: *set-up of bookkeeping systems, processing customer and supplier transactions and ledger accounts. *cost recording systems and techniques to support actual and budgeted cost and income. *principles of contract law and the external business environment *impact of setting up different types of business entity and the finance function within an organisation. *importance of information to business operations

This course will be taught in a classroom with a mixture of directed study and homework. At the end of each unit, you will be assessed via a computerised exam that will take place at the college. Exam fees are included in the course cost, but resit fees will be payable by you, except in the case of extenuating circumstances. This will all be covered in the introductory course. As a student on any AAT course, you will be registered with the association and have access to resources provided by them.

You will be asked to complete an initial assessment prior to this course, to determine if this will be the right level for you. You will need to have English and Maths skills at equivalent to GCSE or Level 1 Functional Skills for this course. If you do not have proof of these qualifications, you will need to undertake an English and Maths assessment before joining this course. Essential digital skills are necessary and access to a computer (Windows or Mac) outside of class time is essential for homework completion. If you need support, you can access free essential digital skills courses before or alongside your AAT course.

The qualification can lead to job roles such as: Accounts assistant, Accounts payable clerk, Purchase/sales ledger clerk, Trainee accounting technician. It will also provide you with the opportunity to continue study onto the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. Your tutor will discuss your options with you prior to completing the course.
