This NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award is the ideal starting point if you are considering any career working with children. You may also be volunteering in community parent groups or generally wanting to understand more about supporting the development of young children.

This short course will enable you to develop knowledge and skills across the following units: • Encouraging children to eat healthily • Creating a safe environment for young children • Working in a team • Contribute to the equality of opportunity in support of young children's development • Provide a range of appropriate play activities for young children

There are no exams but you will be assessed on your portfolio of evidence created during the course. You do not need a placement to complete this course; however, you may find a voluntary placement if you wish. You will also be given a small amount of homework. This will cover the knowledge aspect of the course and will involve you writing short assignments. Your tutor will give you feedback on your work and suggest ways in which you can improve. This course will be delivered in classroom, you will be told your options for this before enrolling on the course which suits you best

You will also be required to complete an initial assessment before we confirm your place on this course to make sure the course is at the appropriate level for you at this time. You will need to show proof that you have English and maths qualifications at a minimum of Entry 3 (Functional Skills) or ESOL Level 2 and that you are progressing towards gaining the higher Level qualifications you will need for employment in this sector. A full English assessment may be required if you do not have this evidence.

This course can support you in voluntary work or to apply for entry level roles in a number of settings. However, if you want to enter a professional career path in Early Years settings or other work with parents and young children, you could progress onto Level 2 qualifications for Early Years Educators, Child Minders, Teaching Assistants, Play Workers etc. In this situation this qualification will be useful in supporting applications to gain a placement for your Level 2 qualification or for entry onto an appropriate apprenticeship programme. Vocational qualifications at Level 2 will require you to have English and Maths Functional Skills at Level 1 or GCSE (minimum grade D or 3) as a minimum but employment in these roles generally requires Level 2 English and Maths. If you do not already have English and Maths qualifications, you will be encouraged to consider working towards them before progressing onto this vocational career pathway.
