This course is ideal if you have no previous qualifications, limited experience in accounting or business skills, or if you need to refresh your knowledge after a break in employment. It is also perfect for the self-employed or those running a business who wish to develop essential business and bookkeeping skills.

This Level 1 qualification combines two awards, offering a comprehensive introduction to the workplace, business practices, and bookkeeping fundamentals. You will gain: • An understanding of how organisations operate. • Skills to contribute effectively in the workplace. • Knowledge of sales and purchase processes • Basic numerical skills, such as working with decimals, percentages, fractions, proportions, and ratios. • Practical experience with financial transactions, including customer and supplier transactions, receipts, and payments. • Awareness of the benefits and risks of using accounting software for bookkeeping tasks.

As an AAT student, you will be registered with the association and gain access to their resources. The course consists of live, taught sessions (in person or online) covering the two qualification units: Business Skills and Bookkeeping. Assessment will be through two final computerised exams, and the course fee includes exam registration and the cost of one resit. Additional resits will incur extra charges.

To ensure this course is the right fit for you, a vocational initial assessment will be required. There are no specific entry qualifications; however, you should be working at least to Entry 3 level in English and Level 1 in Maths. Evidence of this may be required through English qualification certificates or an English and Maths assessment. Intermediate digital skills are necessary, and you may access a free digital skills course before or alongside this course. Access to a computer is essential for completing homework outside of class time.

This course provides a stepping stone to AAT-accredited qualifications. You can progress to the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping or Level 2 in SAGE Computerised Accounts. Potential job opportunities include roles such as Cashier, Trainee Bookkeeper, Clerical Assistant, or pursuing an apprenticeship.
