Pre-Entry English

This course is designed for beginners who are at a very basic level of English. It is ideal for those who have difficulty reading or writing English and want to build essential skills for everyday life, work, or further study. Whether you are looking to improve your English for personal or professional reasons, this course will help you gain confidence and proficiency.

The focus of this course is on English for everyday situations. You will develop practical skills that are useful for daily life, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. • Using the alphabet and spelling basic words • Simple sentence construction • Reading and writing about everyday topics, such as shopping, health, transportation, and bills • Filling in forms and writing short notes • Developing writing skills, including grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure

• No exams—this is a relaxed and supportive learning environment • Face-to-face lessons once a week (2.5 hours) at Leicester Adult College • Access to online learning tools, such as Google Classroom and Google Meet • Bring a smartphone to access resources • Arrive on time for each lesson and attend at least 80% of the course • Complete weekly homework assignments

All students will complete an English and Maths initial assessment to ensure this is the right course for them. Don’t worry—support will be provided if needed.

By completing this course, you will gain increased confidence in using English in everyday situations. You will also develop basic digital skills and be well-prepared to progress to Entry Level qualification courses.
