Family Learning Competition
Are you up for a creative challenge that you can do as a family?
You could win family tickets to De Montfort Hall’s pantomime, Snow White and Abbey Park’s Light Trail by Enlightened Moments.
In case you didn’t know already, Family Learning is all about families learning together, by encouraging parents and carers to learn new skills alongside their children. We do this by offering fully funded courses for parents and carers at local schools and community centres.
The symbol of two hands has always been important to us here at Family Learning. To us, it shows a child’s learning being supported by a parent, grandparent, carer or other adults.
For our competition, we’re challenging families in Leicester to decorate our Family Learning hands with the theme of ‘Hands of Leicester: My Family’s Learning Adventure!’. We want you to think creatively about what that theme means to each person in your family.
We want the whole family to get involved, not just children. So, pick up your pens, pencils, paints, stickers, glitter or whatever you have and show us what your family’s learning adventure looks like.
We’re more interested in how you creatively interpret the theme rather than looking for artistic skill. Take a look at our frequently asked questions below if you’re a bit stuck for ideas.
What could you win?
1st Prize – A family ticket to the opening weekend of De Montfort Hall’s 2024 Pantomime, Snow White. These tickets have been kindly gifted to us by De Montfort Hall themselves. Thank you, De Montfort Hall! You can learn more about the Pantomime on De Montfort Hall's web page.
2nd Prize – A family ticket to Enlightened, the magical outdoor light trail in Leicester’s Abbey Park. These tickets have kindly been gifted to us. Learn more on Visit Leicester’s web page.
3rd Prize – A board game bundle for the whole family to enjoy together.

Can we trace two of our own hands?
You are welcome to pick up one of our templates, download a template or draw around two of your own hands. We only ask that you trace one larger and one smaller hand to signify a family working together.
Can adult’s help?
Yes, absolutely! This is a competition for the whole family to do together, so we want you to all take part.
We’re stuck for ideas on the theme – can you help us?
Of course, but remember this theme is personal and there’s no right or wrong. We just want to see how your family works together to create a pair of decorated hands.
Here’s a few ideas for inspiration:
What do you love doing together as a family that also helps you learn? One of our big beliefs is that learning together as a family can be fun! Even through games, baking yummy treats and playing outside, you are learning.
What did learning look like for the adults in your family group? What did they love at school? Did they perhaps go to school in a different country?
What do you love most about living and learning in Leicester? We have some great local places like museums, parks, theatres, community centres and so much more!
