This course is intended for people with no previous knowledge of the subject, as the tutor will start with the basics. You can expect that some students may have done some pottery in the past, but want to concentrate on this particular technique. In these cases, the tutor will ensure that total beginners will get the instruction and support they need, and that those who are more advanced in the subject will be given tasks with more challenge.

● You will learn how to throw and turn a pot using the correct amount of clay for your chosen project. ● prepare, centre and open clay on the wheel, ● pull and shape the walls of your vessel, turn (trim) thrown item and ● use glaze to decorate and finish thrown items.

There will be no exams or qualifications, and the course will focus on creative activities. The tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support. Everything will be provided for you to use on the first session. You will be given a sketchbook to use throughout the course, and basic materials. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly for each lesson, and that you try not to miss any (you need to agree to attend at least 80% of the lessons). Lessons will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, extra activities, homework, assignments, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning throughout the week. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. For more information go to our FAQ page. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. In every lesson, you will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. Please refer to our updated Materials & Firing Price List for extra costs.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of your learning, support needs or where to move on from here, please contact a member of our enrolment team for more information.
