British Sign Language for Beginners

This course is for complete beginners and is an introduction to British Sign Language (BSL). It is intended for people with no previous knowledge of the subject, as the tutor will start with the basics.

This course will cover the following areas in BSL; fingerspelling the alphabet, Introducing yourself and greeting people, numbers dates and time, family, feelings and emotions & travel and directions.

There will be no exams or qualifications, and the course will focus on practical activities. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly for the lesson and that you try not to miss any (you need to agree to attend at least 80% of the lessons). Lessons will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessments, extra activities, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning throughout the week. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress.
