Pottery Mould Making

This one day course is intended for everyone who has an interest in making moulds to use with clay. The tutor will ensure that those with no previous experience of the subject will get the instruction and support they need. Please note: Work will be fired/glazed to be collected at a later date. This course is being held at our Bishopdale Learning Hub. There is no cafe onsite and limited amenities nearby. Please ensure you bring a packed lunch for the day.

You will learn the basics of making a mould for use with clay. This will include learning how to weigh out and mix pottery plaster, make a drop out mould, make a slab mould, ‘Cottle Up’ and make a two-piece mould.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning and support independent learning.  You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly.  You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. Extra costs: All equipment, including plaster is included in this one day course. Please note: Your work may need to be collected at a later date. Your Tutor will advise you on collection dates and times.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support.
