This is a non-accredited beginners course for those who are new to using a computer or who have very little knowledge. It is a great space to be introduced to some fundamental digital skills and build your confidence. This course is great for people who want to start with the basics and take time to practise your skills in a supportive environment.

This course will introduce you to logging on to a device, using email accounts, using the internet, accessing Google, and some basic document editing. Basic keyboard and mouse skills will be covered, as well as some fundamental digital safety tips.

This course will take place in one of the digital suites at Leicester Adult Education. You will be in a welcoming environment where you will be given time to build your digital skills and confidence at your own pace. Your tutor will help you access all our online resources and introduce you to fundamental digital skills. You will be encouraged to try new things and practise your skills both in groups and individually. Your tutor will also encourage you to practise these skills outside the classroom where possible, e.g. at home or in a library, this will help you grow in confidence and become more digitally literate.

No prior understanding or knowledge of digital skills is required. However, you are expected to have at least Entry Level 2 English reading, listening and comprehension skills.

On completing the beginners course you will be ready to progress onto further learning. You may feel ready to try our Essential Digital Skills - Entry 3 Qualification, a fantastic first step in digital qualifications. Or you may want to focus on developing Microsoft Skills on our Intermediate course.
