This qualification will be a great boost to your CV if you are planning to or already working in care or in any role supporting people. Sales, teamwork and any customer facing jobs all require good interpersonal skills, making this course invaluable for a wide range of employment or volunteer work. If your working relationships have previously been affected by your own neurodivergence, this course could be invaluable in supporting you to develop the skills necessary to manage workplace interactions. This course could also be valuable if you already have these skills, but English is not your first language, as you will become to be more confident and able to discuss your self-assessment in the job application process.

The course will enable you to understand the skills and qualities required to build, maintain and end effective professional supportive relationships with people. You will also explore communication style and how these affect the perceptions and behaviours of people, as well as identifying your own abilities to outline a plan for self-development in this area.

Throughout the course you will build a portfolio of evidence which will be assessed by the tutor to confirm you have achieved the necessary learning outcomes for the qualification. The classroom-based and tutor-lead sessions will involve discussion, short pieces of written work and group activities, with the aim of you gaining the background knowledge alongside some opportunities for to practice these skills.

You will also be required to complete an initial assessment before we confirm your place on this course to make sure the course is at the appropriate level for you at this time. You will need to show proof that you have English and maths qualifications at a minimum of Entry 3 (Functional Skills) or ESOL Level 2 and that you are progressing towards gaining the higher-level qualifications you will need for employment in this sector. A full English assessment may be required if you do not have this evidence.

On gaining this qualification you will be able to discuss your own self-assessment of skills to support you and build confidence in your application for jobs. There is no direct job outcome from this course, but the certificate is nationally recognised at Level 1 and could either be one in a number of allied qualifications you have gained at this level, which employers will value, or may lead you onto higher level courses in mental health, teaching assistance, customer service or social care.
