This Level 2 course is designed for those already working in a business finance role or with a basic understanding of double-entry bookkeeping. It will enable you to develop proficiency in using Sage computerised accounting software, equipping you with the skills to manage financial records efficiently. Business owners and self-employed individuals will also benefit from gaining the knowledge to better oversee their accounts or collaborate effectively with external accountants or bookkeepers.

During the course, you will have access to a trial version of Sage software and will cover the following key areas: • Banking procedures • Principles of recording and processing financial transactions • Principles of VAT • Professional values and basic business legislation • Setting up accounting software to manage accounting information • Processing routine payments and receipts using a computerised system • Maintaining and recording the cash book and journal

The course is delivered through a mix of online teaching, remote independent work, there are in person classroom-based sessions for exams and preparation. You will study eight mandatory units, complete practice exams, and sit two final online assessments. These units will provide a comprehensive understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and computerised accounting software.

Before enrolling, you will need to complete an initial assessment to ensure this course is suitable for you. A good level of English and Maths equivalent to GCSE or Level 1 Functional Skills is required. If you cannot provide proof of these qualifications, you will need to undertake an assessment. Digital skills are essential, and you must have access to a computer for the duration of the course to download the trial version of Sage software.

Upon completion, you may progress to the VTCT (Skills First) RQF Computerised Accounting for Business Level 3 qualification. Depending on your career goals and existing skills, you could also pursue Level 2 Bookkeeping or Accountancy qualifications. A payroll course would complement this qualification, as this course does not specifically cover wage processing.
