Digital Functional Skills - Level 1

Digital Functional Skills Level 1 is designed to equip you with the essential technology skills needed for the workplace, while also enhancing your everyday digital abilities. This course is ideal for those who have completed the Entry 3 qualification and are looking to build on their existing knowledge and confidence with digital tools. Whether you plan to improve your skills for employment or simply want to feel more confident navigating the digital landscape, this course is the perfect next step.

At Level 1, the focus shifts towards skills for work, with a secondary emphasis on improving digital skills for life. You will gain hands-on experience with technology commonly used in the workplace, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. You’ll also develop everyday digital competencies that will help you in practical situations, such as online transactions and safe internet use. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to: • Confidently use a variety of digital devices and manage information effectively. • Create and edit documents, presentations, and spreadsheets. • Communicate effectively using email and other digital platforms. • Carry out online transactions securely and efficiently. • Stay safe and act responsibly online.

The course is designed to provide a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience. You will be assessed through two exams, which will test your understanding and ability to apply the skills you have learned. The two exams are taken on a computer and cover the following areas: • Using devices and handling information • Creating and editing digital content • Communicating effectively online • Transacting online • Being safe and responsible online The course is once-a-week for 18 weeks. Each class is 2.5 hours.

This course is suitable for individuals who have: • experience using Word and PowerPoint • basic knowledge of Excel • an Entry 3 Digital Skills qualification or equivalent experience • a minimum of Entry 3 English skills

Upon completing Digital Functional Skills Level 1, you’ll have the confidence and skills to progress further.
