Latin for Beginners

This course follows on from 'Getting Started with Latin', and it is advisable to complete that course first.

In this course we'll continue working through the Cambridge Latin Course, learning more about the main grammar and vocabulary of the language, as well as studying the cultural context of life in Pompeii.

There will be no exams or qualifications. Therefore, the level of this course is not comparable to qualification courses with other providers. Unlike modern languages, there is no speaking and listening element (which may be reassuring!) and our work in classes will focus mainly on developing skills needed to read short passages. You will also have a chance to practise reading and writing skills as part of regular homework tasks. This gives the tutor an opportunity to identify group weaknesses and to provide you with personalised feedback to help you improve.

You must have some basic knowledge and understanding of the language.
