This course is intended for people with mixed levels of experience. The tutor will ensure that total beginners will get the instruction and support they need, and that those who are more advanced in the subject will be given tasks with more challenge. Additional costs will incur for silver, metals and any embellishments which your tutor will advise you on during the day. Price list of additional costs is available on request.

You will learn how to safely use traditional silversmithing tools and techniques. Using a variety of metals, you will learn and practice how to pierce out, file, drill, solder and polish to create decorative and textured finishes on your metal. Once you have learnt these techniques, you will design and make an individual piece of jewellery.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning outside the classroom and to support independent learning. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan and the class Padlet on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to contribute to discussions and comment in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly and attend a minimum of 75% of the course. Failure to attend a minimum of 75% of the course, may result in you not achieving success or being withdrawn from the course. Solder and gas have been included in the course cost price. Additional costs will incur for silver, metals and any embellishments which your tutor will advise you on during the course. Price list of additional costs is available on request. Due to the nature of the tools and techniques used, and for health and safety, all learners must wear ear defenders (which will be provided) during the class sessions. Please do not wear open toe shoes and please tie hair back.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support. To ensure fair access to our high-demand tailored learning courses and to better support your learning journey, we are moving to a termly enrolment cycle. This means you will now enrol for one term at a time. Your tutor will work with you during the term to identify the best progression route for your goals.

We have a range of courses available to expand your knowledge and enhance wellbeing. If you have completed 3 terms of this course, please discuss with your tutor the next steps and best course for you to progress. More information and how to enrol is available on our website.
