This course is intended for learners who are advanced or have previous experience in Pottery. It is not suitable for beginners to this subject. We run this course at 2 venues; our Leicester Adult Education College and our Bishopdale Adult Learning Hub. Please confirm you are booked on the correct course at the time of enrolment.

You will learn to develop techniques such as coiling, slabbing and pinching and a chance to throw on the wheel. You will develop skills to enable you to create both sculptural and functional wares. You will develop your skills with slips and glazes to create decorative effects, using themes from a wide variety of sources to inspire new ideas.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning outside the classroom and to support independent learning. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan and the class Padlet on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to contribute to discussions and comment in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly and attend a minimum of 75% of the course. Failure to attend a minimum of 75% of the course, may result in you not achieving success or being withdrawn from the course. Basic equipment will be provided for you to use on this course. There will be additional costs for clay, firing and glazes which your tutor will advise you on during the course. Please refer to our firing and glaze cost sheets in the classroom and online.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support. To ensure fair access to our high-demand tailored learning courses and to better support your learning journey, we are moving to a termly enrolment cycle. This means you will now enrol for one term at a time. Your tutor will work with you during the term to identify the best progression route for your goals. You are unable to attend 2 courses of the same title in the same term.

We have a range of courses available to expand your knowledge and enhance wellbeing. Please discuss with your tutor the next steps and best course for you to progress. More information and how to enrol is available on our website. To enrol on these courses please contact our enrolment team. In addition, you can access impartial careers Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) through the careers service at Leicester Adult Education.
