English Entry 1
English Entry 1 courses develop learner’s skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.
English Entry 1 courses teach learners how to:
- Speak clearly to express their feelings and opinions.
- Ask questions about situations that occur in everyday life
- Read and understand short, simple texts that provide information, description, or instructions.
- Say the names of the letters in the alphabet
- Read common words associated with your level of study.
- Write short texts such as messages or notes using basic sentence punctuation correctly and lower case and upper-case letters correctly.
People learn in different ways, so our tutors use a variety of activities. These include:

- Class discussions

- Tests and assessments
- Spelling strategies
- Homework
- Reading tasks
- Grammar resources
- Study Skills
- Learning records
If learners require additional support or other ways of learning, tutors will be able to help with these as well.
This course can lead to progression onto our English Entry Level 2 courses.
