Our Maths Level 1 courses develop learner’s skills in everyday maths.
Maths Level 1 teaches learners how to:
- Number skills – Learners will be taught efficient calculator and non-calculator methods to add, subtract, multiply and divide. They will use these methods to calculate with whole numbers, negative numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages. Learners will be taught to work out ratio and direct proportion.
- Measure, shape and space – Learners will be taught to use common metric measures for length, weight and capacity. They will use this knowledge to calculate perimeter, area, volume and understand scale drawings. Learners will be taught to use angles to describe position and direction.
- Handling data – Learners will be taught the key features of a variety of charts and graphs and to extract and interpret data from them. They will have the opportunity to represent data in different formats. Learners will be taught about different mathematical averages, how they are used and basic probability.
- There will be opportunities to look at a variety of functional tasks which give real-life scenarios where learners can practise their maths skills. Learners will be able to share methods and learn different strategies to solve problems in maths.
- Learners will increase their knowledge of maths concepts, develop memory techniques as well as independent learning and study skills.
