Maths Level 2
In this section
Our Maths Level 2 courses develop learner’s skills in everyday maths and prepare them to progress onto GCSE Math courses.
Maths Level 1 teaches learners how to:
- Number skills – Learners will be taught efficient calculator and non-calculator methods to add, subtract, multiply and divide. They will use these methods to calculate fractions and percentage increase and decrease. Learners will also be taught to calculate ratio and work with basic formulae.
- Measure, shape and space – Learners will be taught how to use common metric and imperial measures for length, weight and capacity. They will use this knowledge to calculate perimeter, area and volume of complex shapes and circles. This course will teach learners how to work out dimensions of scale drawings which will include 3D plans and elevations. They will also learn how to calculate the values of angles and coordinates.
- Handling data – Learners will be taught the key features of a variety of charts and graphs and to extract and interpret data from them. They will have the opportunity to represent data in different formats. Learners will be taught about different mathematical averages and their purpose and how to use probability.
- There will be opportunities to look at a variety of functional tasks which give real-life scenarios where learners can practise their maths skills. Learners will be able to share methods and learn different strategies to solve problems in maths.
- Learners will increase their knowledge of maths concepts, develop memory techniques as well as independent learning and study skills.
People learn in different ways, so our tutors use a variety of activities. These include:
- Working with others
- Group discussions
- Pair work
- Individual work
- Presentations
- Quizzes / games
- Assessments / tests

- Self-assessment
- Homework
- Learning records
- Reading problems
- Vocabulary work
- Interactive Resources
- Problem solving
If learners require additional support or other ways of learning, tutors will be able to help with these as well.
This course can lead to progression onto learners progressing on to Maths GCSE, or other academic paths.
