Our friends at Leicester Vaughan College are delivering a new, free course called ‘Learning to be a Facilitator’, here at Leicester Adult Education College in September.
The course teaches essential facilitator skills and theory as well as opportunities for experiential practice and personal reflection.
What is a facilitator?
A facilitator is someone who actively listens, manages dynamics and supports groups to turn a room full of ideas into decisions and actions. Employers really value facilitators because they strengthen teamwork, improve communication and collaboration, and help organisations move projects forward to achieve meaningful outcomes.

On the course, you will learn:
. Planning and preparation
. Hosting and welcoming participants
. Co facilitating
. Asking useful questions
. Active listening to understand
. Reflection and reflexive practice
. Working with conflict or differences of opinions
. Encouraging participation in groups
. Psychological safety in learning spaces
You will also learn what psychological health and psychological safety is and why these are important for facilitators. The course explores the benefits of psychological health and psychological safety for the individual, the team and the organisation. You will be introduced to Timothy Clark’s Four Stages of Psychological Safety which are: Inclusion Safety; Learner Safety; Contributor Safety; Challenger Safety.
The course runs:
Wednesdays, Starting 30 Sept, lasting for 5 weeks
6pm-9pm
