Rebuilding a career – Musa’s Journey
Musa shares how Family Learning and ESOL courses have helped him gain confidence, improve his English, and rebuild his career after moving to England. A former professional footballer and coach in Turkey, he is now using his skills to support his family and explore new opportunities, showing how learning can open doors at any stage of life.
Musa was a former professional footballer who played at a high level in Turkey’s top divisions before becoming a football coach.
Along with his wife and children, Musa moved to Leicester around one and half years ago. Moving to Leicester marked the start of a new chapter, including learning English. Musa was determined to rebuild his career and continue coaching in Leicester, so he began taking steps to improve this English language skills.
Musa began on a Family Learning English for Parents course, where he developed the foundations of his English in a supportive and welcoming environment.
“All the tutors are very good and have helped me. They all taught me different things.”
Encouraged by his tutors, he progressed onto mainstream ESOL Entry Level 2 and Maths with us, allowing him to continue building his confidence and communication skills. For Musa, it’s more than just the English language skills.

The courses haven’t just improved Musa’s own prospects, they’ve also given him the confidence to support his children with their learning. This has helped the whole family settle more easily into life in a new country.
Musa has grown in confidence and is proud of how far he has come. He now encourages friends to enrol on Family Learning courses to open doors for them to new opportunities.
