This Level 2 qualification will suit different types of people, those already working in accounts who would like to gain formal qualifications, those who may be looking for a career change or those who aspire to work in an accounting role.

You will undertake the following accounting units: • Introduction to Bookkeeping. • Principles of Bookkeeping Controls. • Principles of Costing. • Business environment.

This course will be taught in a classroom with a mixture of directed study and homework. As a student on any AAT course, you will be registered with the association. The course will consist of taught sessions focusing on different units that make up each individual qualification. This opens a pathway of progression to higher level AAT courses such as the diploma or it can be stand alone. This is an accredited course and is industry recognised. At the end of each unit you will be assessed via a computerised exam that will take place at the college. Exam fees are included in the course cost but resit fees will be payable by you, except in the case of extenuating circumstances. To maximise success rates, exams will be scheduled by the tutor in negotiation with you.

There are no specific entry requirements although you should ideally be qualified to a minimum of Level 1 in English and Maths. Level 1 in Bookkeeping and/or Business Skills are desirable as they will provide you with a solid base. Essential digital skills are necessary, although learners in need of support can access free essential digital skills courses alongside their AAT courses. Access to a computer (Windows or Mac) outside of class time is essential for homework completion. You should have a desire to succeed in the accounting sector. You will be expected to undertake a vocational initial assessment to make sure this is the right level course for you. You will also be asked to complete a bookkeeping assessment. This is to gauge your ability to answer examination assessment questions at the appropriate level to make sure the course is at the right level for you. When considering your entitlement to fee funding for courses, we will discuss your eligibility prior to enrolment or becoming responsible for any costs.

The qualification will enhance your prospects of gaining employment in an accounting position. It will also provide you with the opportunity to study for the Level 3 Diploma in Accounting. Your tutor will discuss this with you.
