This course is suitable for people considering a career as, a Teaching assistant, early years educator or, a career working with children.

You will explore: What is code-related literacy? What is phonics? Why is phonics important in early childhood settings? What are some evidence-based strategies for teaching phonics? An introduction to the tasks you would undertake in this career as well as the skills and qualifications you will need to gain employment in this sector.

This course is a one-day, non-accredited course, that will act as a taster session where you learn about courses and employment in working as a teaching assistant or as an early years practitioner. You will be taught different aspects linked to both roles that will enable you to decide on your next steps. There is no written work or exam just turn up and expect to be enlightened.

There are no specific entry requirements, however, you should have an adequate level of English and Maths (Entry 3/Level 1) to understand both: * verbal and, *written, English and Maths qualifications will be needed, should you choose to progress through qualification levels or gain employment. You are encouraged to gain those qualifications before pursuing vocational qualifications.

If you decide that being a, * Teaching assistant, or, working with children as an * Early years educator is your preferred career path, you will be offered the opportunity to take the initial assessment for the qualification courses at the end of this course. This will show you which level of course you need to start your journey from. You can access free impartial careers Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) through the careers service at Leicester Adult Education. We are here to help you to make informed choices about your future pathways and support you to progress towards your goals.
