Emergency First Aid at Work

The emergency First Aid at Work course covers the basic skills and knowledge qualification needed to administer basic emergency first aid and how to effectively call the emergency services. Employers must have a clear first aid risk assessment which identifies how many staff need to have this basic training and how many staff are required to have the First Aid at Work qualification - which is how you will know which course is suitable for you.

The qualification includes knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED; providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolemic shock.

This fast paced one day course will teach you the knowledge and skills needed to respond to first aid emergencies at work. Your competence to the required standard will be assessed by a short multiple choice exam and a practical assessment of your CRP, AED and recovery position skills.

During the assessment for this qualification, you will be required to demonstrate CPR and recovery position techniques for a minimum of 2 minutes each. You must be able to independently get down to the floor level and remain sitting or kneeling for this time to gain accreditation. You should also be working at a minimum level of English skills equivalent to Level 1 or GCSE in order to be benefit from the teaching materials and take the multiple-choice assessment during this course.

This qualification will certify you at the level of 'Emergency First Aider' for three years. Should you need to increase the level of skills to include the ability to administer 'First Aid at work', you will need to complete the three day course. At or before the three year expiry of this qualification, you will need to take this course again to be certified for another 3 years.
