This Level 3 course is for learners who have already gained a Level 2 qualification in Counselling skills and want to take the next step towards becoming professionally qualified. Alternatively you may be working in a range of roles supporting people and have a desire to gain these allied skills to improve your practice or job prospects.

The Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills aims to: • Develop a repertoire of counselling skills at a consistent level • Underpin these skills with an understanding of one major therapeutic model • Increase the self-awareness of the person and their awareness of the impact that they have on people

This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or psychological distress, as the course involves classroom based practice therapy activities and deep personal reflection. There are no exams for this course, you will be assessed on your portfolio of evidence and written assignments. It is important to understand that the level of commitment on this course is high and the written element requires you to complete four substantial pieces of writing. throughout the course, of which you will be given staggered deadlines. You can expect to take at least two extra hours a week of independent study and preparation outside of class time to complete these assignments.

You will need to have completed the Level 2 qualification and/or equivalent units/qualifications for entry onto this course. You will also need to have English Skills at an equivalent to Level 2 (GCSE) in order to be able to complete the assignments required for assessment of this qualification. If you do not have proof of this nor have you progressed directly from the Level 2 course with us, we will require you to complete an English Assessment to confirm this before enrolling on the course.

Successful completion of the course will allow you to progress onto a Foundation Degree in Counselling, Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or the Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Advice and Guidance. It can also be considered as an essential step in the process of becoming a fully qualified counselling practitioner - for which you will need a minimum of a Level 4 qualification.
