This course is intended for people who are new to, or have little knowledge of, basic yoga practices and may need adaptations for poses eg seated options. The tutor will ensure that total beginners get the instructions and support they need. This course will benefit people who wish to take some time for themselves and to develop self-care practices to enhance their wellbeing.

Basic Yoga poses and sequences with adaptations; breathing exercises; relaxation techniques; Mindfulness and body awareness practices; how to practice yoga safely using blocks, chairs and yoga cushions for support with special reference to individual needs.You will get to meet and talk with other learners each session to help you build up a peer support network for your learning journey. The sessions are designed to help you to build strength and improve your mobility, balance and coordination, as well as help you to relax and become more mindful. You will be given guidance on how to adapt poses using yoga props and a chair for optional support. The course is an excellent opportunity to build confidence with practising yoga for your body and needs whilst interacting with like minded people.

Each session will include a brief group discussion/sharing time so that you can get to know who's learning with you, a Mindfulness practice and a yoga sequence. Each session will be building and following on from the last to help you grow your knowledge and understanding in a supportive way. Options for poses will be given to help you learn your version of a yoga practice which you will develop over the duration of the course. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing in layers and bring a bottle of water. You will be required to complete our health screening questions before you start the course. This course will involve physical activities. So that you can be successful in learning yoga, we require that you arrive promptly for each lesson, and you attend at least 80% of the lessons. The lessons will be supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience through providing additional resources and assessments to support independent learning throughout the week. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. After every lesson, you will be expected to comment briefly in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve.
