English Entry 2 (Functional Skills)

Our English Functional Skills courses at Entry Levels 1, 2, and 3 are designed to help you develop the essential knowledge and skills needed to: Gain a recognised English qualification. Progress on to the next level of English Join Digital or Skills for Work courses Support your children with their schoolwork.

You will improve your abilities in: • Spelling, punctuation, and grammar. • Speaking and listening in everyday situations. • Reading and understanding written texts. • Writing for different purposes such as emails or .

We offer flexible course options to suit your schedule: • Twice-a-week courses: 4 hours per week, allowing you to complete two levels of English in one academic year. Exams take place in February and June/July. • Once-a-week courses: 2 hours per week, with most exams taking place in June/July. Speaking and listening assessments will be recorded for assessment purposes. To successfully complete the course, you will need to: • Arrive promptly for each lesson. • Attend at least 80% of lessons. • Actively participate • Complete weekly homework. Lessons are held face-to-face but will also utilise Google Classroom, Google Meet, and other online resources for additional learning. You will need access to a smartphone or another device. If needed, you can enrol on a 'How to Use Google Classroom' course.

Before starting, you will complete an English initial assessment to ensure you are placed on the right course to meet your needs.
