The Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools is designed to provide you with a foundational understanding of the teaching and learning environment within schools. Perfect for those exploring a career in education, this qualification offers an excellent starting point for roles such as teaching assistant, office staff, or other positions within a school setting.

This course will enable you to develop knowledge across the 3 units and following themes: • Understand schools as organisations. • How to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well. • How to communicate with children, young people and adults.

This course is assessed through a portfolio of evidence that you will build during your studies. While a placement is not required, you may choose to undertake a voluntary placement to enhance your learning experience. Some homework will be set, including short written assignments to cover key knowledge. The course can be delivered either in a classroom setting or online, giving you flexibility to choose the mode of study that suits you best.

To enrol, you will need English and maths qualifications at a minimum of Entry 3 (Functional Skills or GCSE equivalent). If you cannot provide evidence of these qualifications, an English assessment will be required.

Upon completion, you can progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF). This next-level qualification requires English and maths Functional Skills at Level 1 or GCSE (minimum grade D or 3). The Level 1 Award is also a valuable asset for applications to a range of roles within school settings, including lunchtime assistants, after-school club staff, and office support roles.
