This day course is intended for people with mixed levels of experience who would like to explore materials and develop their drawing and painting skills. The tutor will ensure that total beginners will get the instruction and support they need, and that those who are more advanced in the subject will be given tasks with more challenge.

This is a creative and experimental one-day course. You will use ink to explore ideas around drawing, line, texture and colour. Experiment with how to capture light and shade using tones and highlights. Use gestural drawing to create movement in your art. You will explore line using a variety of drawing tools, experimenting with textures, shading techniques and mark making and be inspired by the work of other artists and cultures.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning outside the classroom and to support independent learning. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan and the class Padlet on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to contribute to discussions and comment in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly. Inks and mixed media paper are included in the course cost. You are welcome to bring your own art materials if you want to practice using more than the basic kit provided in class.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support. To ensure fair access to our high-demand tailored learning courses and to better support your learning journey, we are moving to a termly enrolment cycle. This means you will now enrol for one term at a time. Your tutor will work with you during the term to identify the best progression route for your goals.

We have a range of courses available to expand your knowledge and enhance wellbeing. If you have attended 3 terms of this course, please discuss with your tutor the next steps and best course for you to progress. More information and how to enrol is available on our website.
