Heritage Crafts - Weaving

This day course is for learners with mixed ability. The tutor will ensure that total beginners will get the instruction and support they need, and that those who are more advanced in the subject will be challenged further to show attention to detail. This course is part of our Heritage crafts themed day which celebrates and highlights skills from our shared cultural history, preserving traditional artistry for the modern world.

Discover the rhythmic art of weaving in this immersive one-day course. We’re bringing ancient loom techniques into the modern era, blending tactile heritage with contemporary textures. In this intensive session, you’ll transform wool into a sophisticated piece of hand-woven art. You’ll leave with a finished wall hanging or textile sample and the "maker’s intuition" to continue weaving your own path. No prior experience required.

The lesson will be classroom based and supported by Google Classroom. This is our virtual learning space which will enhance your learning experience and will be used for resources, assessment, as well as to extend learning outside the classroom and to support independent learning. You will be able to access Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. You will be asked to contribute to a Learning Plan and the class Padlet on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. You will be expected to contribute to discussions and comment in writing on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and suggestions on ways in which you can improve. So that you can be successful in learning the subject, we do require that you arrive promptly.  Wool and use of loom have been included in the course cost price. You are welcome to bring your own art materials if you want to practice using more than the basic kit provided in class.

There will be no exams or qualifications, as the course will focus on creative activities. The Tutor will use a combination of group demonstrations and one-to-one support. To ensure fair access to our high-demand tailored learning courses and to better support your learning journey, we are moving to a termly enrolment cycle. This means you will now enrol for one term at a time. Your tutor will work with you during the term to identify the best progression route for your goals.
