Family Learning Competition Winners

Our Family Learning team recently invited the families of Leicester to take part in an art competition. Read on to find out more about our winners and their prizes below!

For the competition, we asked families to decorate our Family Learning hands based on the theme: “Hands of Leicester: My Family’s Learning Adventure!” We encouraged the whole family to get involved and express what the theme meant to them.

We received many fantastic entries, and after much consideration, we selected our winners. Our decision was based on how well the family had worked together and how effectively they reflected the theme in their description. We invited our winners to our Family Learning open day. At the open day, Kerry, our Head of Service, spoke to them about their entry and presented them with their prizes.

First Place Winner: ‘Discovering Leicester’s Legacy’ by Shamen, Madhusha and Jaden.

“Living in Leicester for under 2 years, our family’s biggest adventure was learning about the city’s history and present to fit into our new life here. This artwork captures King Richard and the city’s rich football legacy. We used colour paper, glue, paints and coloured pens.”

Competition entry, two hands showing a football and King Richard III's face.   Kerry, Head of Service, with winning Family. They are stood in front of a board and Kerry is passing them a certificate.

We're thrilled that our winning family had an amazing time at the theatre and created even more wonderful memories together in Leicester!

A big thank you once again to De Montfort Hall for generously providing the tickets to be able to give away.

Second place winner: ‘Learning together is fun’ – Armstrong Family

“A mendi design of learning maths together as a family, mummy and son learning together”

It was wonderful chatting with the family at our open day and seeing just how passionate they are about learning together and encouraging each other. Jenson and his family are incredibly proud of his dedication to learning maths, and they wanted to showcase that in their entry.

We hope they had an amazing time at Enlightened, the enchanting outdoor light trail in Leicester’s Abbey Park. These tickets were also gifted to us by Leicester Events.

Entry from winner 2. Hands show lots of colours, with numeracy matters and words to connote maths learning. Winner, Jayden holding his prize, next to his mum on the left and Kerry Gray on the right. They are standing in front of the board, showing his entry.

Third place winner: 'Family in Autumn' - Dinesh Family

“There are two siblings hugging each other surrounded by what they’ve learnt in the small hand. In the big hand, the two parents are hugging each other in the same way as the siblings and they are surrounded by things that they’ve learnt. The hands are in an Autumn background with a blossom tree. We’ve used paint and pencil art."

We loved how each member of the family was represented in this entry. It’s a very beautiful piece too! Again, we met the family at our open day and Kerry presented them with their prize. They won a bundle of books and board games, perfect for the whole family to enjoy together.

Entry from winner three, showing hands with drawings of sibling and parents. Images around them show learning symbols, such as books, graduation, maths and more. The background is a blossom sunset. Young winner, to the left, shaking hand of Kerry Gray, on the right. The board of the entry is behind them. Kerry is holding their prize.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered. We received so many wonderful submissions that truly showcased families working together and having fun which is exactly what we value most here at Family Learning.
