On World Mental Health Day, which was celebrated on Thursday 10 October, REMIT completed a 5-mile sponsored walk to raise awareness and money for Mental Health Foundation.

When asked what they'd like to do this year, following last year’s successful bake sale, one of the learners, Adrian, suggested a sponsored walk. So, ‘Adrian’s Walk’ was created!

REMIT walked 5 miles, leaving Leicester Adult Education College to walk along the Great Central Way towards Aylestone Meadows and then back along the Grand Union Canal, until arriving back at the college.

There were lots of chatter and laughter, even between learners that hadn’t met before. Learners also reflected on how nice it was to be outside with others, as it gave them time to socialise, but it also helped their wellbeing. They also told us how beautiful the walk was so close to the city centre. Some learners said they felt encouraged to walk more before and after their courses. That sounds like a win win to us!

Importantly, a total of £400 was raised for the Mental Health Foundation. A fantastic charity that means a lot to our learners. On Facebook, the Mental Health Foundation praised the learners:

“Thank you so much for supporting us for World Mental Health Day! It looks like a beautiful walk! All our care, the MHF team”.

We are so proud of our learners, for working together and taking part in a great activity to raise crucial awareness and funds. Stay tuned to see what REMIT plan for next year!
