This introductory course is for learners who may, or may not, have any previous knowledge or skills and may be starting out on a new career path and want to see if this is right for them. The tutor will adapt the learning activities to suit all abilities and needs. This qualification aims to introduce you to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work along with some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills. This non accredited qualification also gives you the opportunity to investigate the knowledge and skills needed to progress onto an accredited level 2 course.

You will learn about counselling skills that can be used in everyday life and work along with some of the approaches that underpin the use of these skills. You will also learn to appreciate the importance of self-development.

There are no exams as you are assessed on your portfolio of evidence. You do not need a placement to complete this course. You will also be given regular homework. This will cover the knowledge aspect of the course and will involve you writing detailed assignments. Your tutor will give you feedback on your assignments and suggest ways in which you can improve.

There are no specific entry requirements, however, you should have an adequate level of English and Maths to understand both: *verbal and, *written, English and Maths qualifications will be needed, should you choose to progress through qualification levels or gain employment. You are encouraged to gain those qualifications before pursuing vocational qualifications.

Successful completion of the course will allow you to progress onto the NCFE CACHE Level 2 certificate in Counselling Skills. It can also be considered as the first rung on the ladder in starting to explore the opportunity in becoming employed in the counselling sector.
