Be Creative - Mixed Media

This course is for people aged 25 or over, who have moderate learning disabilities. This course will benefit people who are creative and enjoy expressing themselves through art using different materials and methods. They will enjoy trying new techniques in different styles to produce a range of creative products. If you attend courses in the morning and afternoon at Bishopdale Adult Learning Hub please bring your own lunch.

Drawing to sketch your ideas: Painting inspired by Artists and art movements; Collage- use patterned papers you have made to create art; Printing - explore a variety of techniques such as creating your own printing block; Sewing simple craft projects; Making models from Paper Mache; Pottery - use clay to make practical or decorative items. You will also learn about famous artists and use their work to inspire your own ideas. You will research and design in a sketchbook which will be yours to take home. All materials will be provided.

There will be no exams and the course will focus on creative and practical activities. There will be a specialist Art tutor to teach you. When you meet staff before you sign up for the course, we will find out whether the course is right for you, and what extra support you might need. To get the most out of your class, please come on time. Try not to miss any classes (you agree to attend at least 80% of the lessons). Lessons will be practical and take place in the classroom. There is also a Google Classroom which is an online place where your tutor will share information about your course. You can get on your Google Classroom via your secure leicesterlearns account. Your tutor can help you to do this. You will be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you and the tutor will be able to chart your progress. In every lesson, you will be expected to comment briefly on your learning, and your tutor will give you feedback and ideas how you can improve.

For people aged 25 and over with moderate learning disabilities

You will have the chance to enter your work into the Art Exhibition at the College which starts in June. You can ask your friends and family to come and see your work. If you would like to develop new skills and interests, there are lots of other courses for you to try.
