The Level 2 AAT Certificate in Bookkeeping is designed to provide you with a strong foundation in practical accountancy skills, focusing on the double-entry bookkeeping system. You will learn to handle associated documents and processes, while gaining an understanding of how digital accounting systems automate certain elements of the process. This course is ideal for those looking to start a career in finance or enhance their existing skills. You will be required to attend the introductory course for this qualification.

This qualification is delivered through two key modules: Introduction to Bookkeeping and Principles of Bookkeeping Controls. You will develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:. • Understanding how to set up bookkeeping systems. • Processing customer and supplier transactions. • Recording receipts and payments accurately. • Entering transactions into ledger accounts. • Using control accounts effectively. • Reconciling bank statements with the cash book. • Utilising the journal for corrections. • Producing trial balances.

As an AAT student, you will be registered with the association and gain access to a range of resources. The course will include live taught sessions, delivered either in person or online, covering the qualification’s units. At the end of each module, you will take a computerised exam: first for Introduction to Bookkeeping and then for Principles of Bookkeeping Controls. Exam registration fees and one resit fee are included in the course cost; additional resits will incur extra charges.

Prior to enrolling, you will need to complete an initial assessment to ensure this course is suitable for your level. A minimum of GCSE or Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths is required. If you do not have evidence of these qualifications, you will need to undertake an English and Maths assessment. Essential digital skills and access to a computer are necessary for completing homework. Free essential digital skills courses are available if you need support in this area.

Upon completion, you will be equipped for roles such as: • Accounts Assistant • Accounts Payable Clerk • Purchase/Sales Ledger Clerk • Trainee Accounting Technician The qualification also provides a pathway to further study, such as the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting or the Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping.
