Katie joined our Access to Higher Education course in 2020. After successfully completing the course with a Merit, she is now in her second year at De Montfort University studying Psychology. Reflecting on her time as an adult learner with us, Katie said:
“I would definitely recommend the Access to Higher Education course as it could be the start of a new chapter.”
Our Access course has certainly been the start of a new chapter for Katie, and we couldn’t be prouder of her. Katie told us she is passing all her university course exams and she has even started volunteering at the Children and Young Person’s Justice Service. Katie is really enjoying studying and finds her volunteer placement fun as well as beneficial to boosting her CV.
Katie was hesitant to join our Access to Higher Education course at first, as she had concerns about how she would manage her epilepsy on such an intensive course. However, after encouragement from our Skills for Work team, she completed the initial assessment and was immediately accepted onto the course. During the course, Katie told us “the support I am getting is amazing”.
Mercy, one of Katie’s tutors, praised Katie by saying:
“I wish Katie all the best in her University studies - during her time with us, she was a hardworking individual who is motivated, thoughtful and always willing to learn and develop.”
Katie’s hard work is certainly paying off, and we are so glad that our course was able to help open the doors for her.
From January, we're offering a part-time Access to Higher Education course. - which is great for busy and working adults! This course runs two evenings a week at the college.
