Our Art Exhibition, entitled ‘We Present: Leicester Adult Education’, is back for 2023. The exhibition celebrates the arts as presented by Leicester adult education’s Adult Learners, through an electric display of what can be achieved on a variety of our Arts courses.
Learn more about our art exhibition
Frank, one of our art learners, had his artwork presented at last year's exhibition and attended the open evening. We asked Frank what he thought of the exhibition last year:
“I really enjoyed it, I felt very lucky to have something presented. It felt good to be selected.”
This year Frank has had his artwork selected to be used on our invitations and promotional posters as well as in the exhibition.
“It’s a real privilege. You don’t expect things like this to happen when you’re 96, nearly 97 years old. I’m extremely pleased”.
Frank has been a learner with us for nearly a decade. Frank’s creative passion was creating and flying model aeroplanes, but he felt he needed a new challenge. He enrolled onto one of Pete’s classes and has continued to learn with us every term.
“Pete is a great tutor, he’s a lovely character. His courses are a lifesaver at my age. If you enjoy art and being with creative people then it’s great.”
Frank told us that Pete always offers his class a challenge, which he loves. Frank specifically enjoys landscape art (like his artwork featured on our exhibition posters, see below) but he also has an opportunity to learn expressive and experimental painting techniques within the course.
Frank really enjoys socialising with the other learners, he enjoys seeing everyone’s work and values the feedback they all give each other. During the pandemic, Frank was able to continue his love of art on our online Art course, where he could create artwork from the comfort of his own home.
Pete, one of our tutors, reflected on Frank’s learning over the years at Leicester Adult Education:
“It’s been a great pleasure to have Frank attend a number of my courses. He is always ready for a creative challenge and happy to work outside his comfort zone with a wide variety of media. I’ve seen his art skills develop over time and seen him apply them imaginatively to personal themes and pictures of places he has known well or visited. He enjoys the company of the other students and his easy-going demeanour and sense of humour make him a popular member of the class. Frank’s determination to keep going and try new experiences is life affirming and inspiring to all those around him.”
Frank is an asset to our Art learner cohort. We are both excited and privileged to be showcasing his artwork and sharing his creativity at our upcoming exhibition.
