Having always been an artistic and crafty person in her spare time, Avani, along with her friend decided to join our ‘Sewing and Clothes Making’ course.
Sewing has always been an interest of Avani’s, but she “never had the time or courage to get started”. Avani also thought that she would benefit from a “helping hand to gain some confidence” and so she enrolled on our course. We’re really glad that we were able to support her to fulfil this goal, as Avani told us:
“The course has definitely helped my confidence to sew and has sparked the joy I get when I create and make something. The main reason I started now was to be able to make outfits for my 3-year-old daughter.”
Crafting has always helped Avani’s wellbeing through tough times. She told us that she turned to crafting when her mental health struggled following a miscarriage a few years ago. Avani told us that she has experienced similar benefits on her wellbeing with our sewing courses too.
“I can now add sewing to part of my armamentarium to get through challenging time that lie ahead”.
We’re really proud of the determination and fantastic work that Avani has created, she certainly has a lot of talent!
Avani is now enrolled on our ‘Sewing – Develop and Explore’ course. On this course she plans to try new techniques and has set a new goal to design and create a dress for her daughter’s birthday next year. Reflecting on our courses, Avani said:
“Most importantly the course really provides some nice ‘me time’ away from the stresses of everyday life. We are lucky to have a great group. There is some great peer support and Sally is a lovely and knowledgeable tutor. “
Sally, reflecting on Avani’s progress, told us:
“As a tutor, it is a joy to see Avani and her peers accomplish new skills.
Sewing is an incredibly useful life skill and learning it in a group environment brings extra enjoyment and support. The beauty of education and what makes it so valuable is the skills gained can be kept, furthered and shared forever more.”
